Message from Norman Rosenblum, INMD Scientific Director
June 2025

I was delighted to meet with the INMD Institute Advisory Board (IAB) at the University of British Columbia (UBC) May 21-23rd. The meeting was a fabulous opportunity for our IAB members to interact with the INMD community based at UBC, to learn about the research being undertaken by some talented trainees, and to hear some outstanding science talks.
Highlights of the meeting include the Meet & Greet and poster session, and the lectureships provided by Dr. Tim Kieffer entitled, Update on stem-cell derived islet replacement for diabetes, and by Dr. Mary Jung entitled, Small Steps for Big Changes: Scaling up a diabetes prevention program in geographically and ethnoculturally diverse urban regions of Canada. These presentations illustrated the quality and the breath of diabetes research that INMD has been funding through our 100 Years of Insulin: Accelerating Canadian Discoveries to Defeat Diabetes Initiative. We also had beautiful weather and stunning views of the mountains to admire during our meeting, which made our group dragon-boating activity so enjoyable.
Thanks to Dr. Rachel Fernandez, UBC Associate Vice-President Research & Innovation Office of the Vice-President Research & Innovation for welcoming our IAB to the university. I also wish to thank our IAB member, Dr. Laura Sly, for connecting us to UBC and helping us to plan our meeting.
Wishing everyone a safe and happy summer!
