Institute Advisory Boards (IABs)
Each of CIHR's 13 Institute Advisory Boards (IABs) provide advice, guidance and perspective on the full range of Institute activities, enhancing the Institute's ability to plan, function and engage with their respective communities. Composed of a diverse group of volunteer members from public, private and non-profit sectors IABs serve as a critical pathway to ensuring health research priorities and initiatives benefit and address the needs of all Canadians. Individuals interested in serving on an IAB must apply (see below). New members are selected from the pool of applicants based on gaps in expertise, experience, demographics and representation identified by each Institute. Please refer to the 2025 IAB Expertise, Experience and Representation webpage for more information.
2025 IAB Membership Cycle
Applications for the 2025 IAB Membership Cycle are currently being accepted. The deadline to apply to the 2025 Membership Cycle is April 25, 2025.
During the selection process, each Institute will review the pool of candidates to identify individuals who best fill the critical gaps created by turnover, in expertise, experience and representation.
When applying to the IAB Membership Cycle, you will be asked to complete a self-identification questionnaire as part of the application through ResearchNet. This questionnaire collects important information related to equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and supports CIHR's commitment to enhancing EDI in the research funding system and ensures that governance and advisory bodies reflect Canada's diversity. CIHR may use the self-identification responses to inform IAB member selection to balance diversity and representation on the IABs.
